I can pretty well guarantee that you either won't get a response or it will be GLACIAL. Simply put, I am overwhelmed. The task is huge and my time is limited. Frankly, I don't expect to live to see the task completed. Maybe I will, but maybe I'll be a drooling idiot by then. Oh, well. Aging is not for sissies. As you may have guessed, my mortality is always an issue.
I MAY be able to make simple changes rather quickly, spelling and the like. Yet, that will require republishing at least the offending page and then loading the corrected page onto the web server. It does take some time. As a result, I suspect I'll just compile a bunch of them and do them as a group, all at once. I would hope that would be more efficient with what time I have left.
I have no interest in controversy or arguments over the 'politically-correct' issues of the day. The news is filled with all that kind of stuff. They don't need my input. When I get such, I suspect I'll just read it and file it. My intention is NOT to respond to such.
If you describe a major theological problem you suspect I am struggling with, I can promise nothing speedy. I will read and seriously consider what you tell me. I MAY need to investigate further. I will LIKELY have to meditate and brood on the issue for awhile; maybe even quite a while. Don't expect anything quick.
If you are reporting a software or hardware related problem, I probably can't help you. I'm not tech support. I don't know all about those fancy new gadgets. I still use a landline. I don't own a cellphone. My wife keeps asking me to get a cellphone. I don't want one! It makes it easy for people to call you, any time or any where, right? You might ask, why don't I want a cellphone? Funny you should ask.
When I first started working in the hospital, I was 'Manager for Psychological Services'. They didn't have cell phones then. The hospital gave me a beeper. Whenever it went off, I was supposed to call in and find out what was going on. Well, I did. I can tell you, whenever the beeper went off it was at the worst possible moment, in the most awkward of places. I've been beeped in church. I've been beeped in the middle of the night when I was asleep. I've been beeped in the tub. You get the idea. And they NEVER beep you with good news. Imagine the 'joy' of trying to talk a stroke patient out of committing suicide, for an hour, dripping wet, wrapped in a towel, in my bathroom. When I left the hospital, I was thrilled to get rid of the beeper. Now, my wife wants me to get a cellphone. Frankly, I see it as nothing more than a grown-up beeper. I don't want people to 'reach out and touch' me. I just want to live a quiet and peaceful life. NOTHING a cellphone can give me can improve on that.
I'm not a complete Luddite, though many today would think I am. In college I began the task of teaching the computer to translate French. I did so by punching cards. You probably don't even know what I'm talking about. In 'days gone by' computers ran programs using 'punch cards'. Needless to say, my goal of using the computer to translate French 'went the way of all flesh'. When I worked on my Master's Thesis, I used a CRT. Big change! When I did my Doctoral Dissertation, I had my data backed up on Mag Tape. One, SMALL mag tape. As a backup to that 'newfangled' technology, I had the same data dumped to cards. You know, punch cards? 27 cases of cards! The data fit onto one, small, mag tape. I've since had the same data transferred to one 3 inch floppy disc. The capacity of even these small floppies is amazing!
And this says nothing about processing power. When I was doing treatment effectiveness research during my doctoral work, I 'shut down' my state university mainframe. My Monte Carlo analysis was simply too big and too demanding for their IBM mainframe to handle. I had to cut it up into about 15 pieces and have them submitted individually each night for a couple of weeks, and then put the pieces back together again. At one point I thought of myself as very technically savvy.
Now-a-days I use old, end of life software, because I don't want to spend an arm and a leg for the newer stuff that does the same job, badly, with a steep learning curve. I focus on open-source software that is free and available easily. I systematically avoid the 'innovative' upgrades, and just go with the 'stable' editions. I do use Windows, but it's old and I don't want to upgrade it. Don't get me started on Google! I hope to leave them all behind. I have set a goal for myself of learning and transitioning to Linux in the next few years. Free, open source, functional; what's not to like?
Sorry, sometimes I run on. I guess I'm like a balloon that's been blown up and is under pressure to let it all out. I guess, sometimes, I get windy. Back to where we came in.
So, if you're looking for answers for a hardware or software problem, I'm probably not the person to help you. I will look at the problem. It's unlikely that I'll be able to change things easily or quickly. No promises, but I will look into it.
If you're trying to contact me regarding a LEGAL issue, I do intend to respond in a timely manner. I do NOT want to do anything illegal. I would like to think that I've got my bases covered there, but if you've got concerns, we want to respond to them.
